VA Linux is taking Linux, packaging it and selling it with hardware. BSDI (or Telenet) is taking FreeBSD, packaging it and selling it with hardware. What's the difference? What nobody seems to grasp here is that BSDI does not own FreeBSD. They just contribute to it, like everybody else - and they happen to own the trademark on the name, but that's expected to change soon.
