The downgrade then worked just fine. After rebooting into FreeBSD I can confirm repeating the "diskinfo -t" tests that all the errors have now gone. I'll do some more extensive testing tomorrow, but it looks like this has solved the problem. Should be ready to put into use as discs for ZIL, L2ARC and the base system.
