The pkg guy? octave depends on gnuplot and gnuplot depends on: texlive-texmf-20120701_4 texlive-base-20120701_11 tex-formats-20120701_2 tex-dvipsk-5.992_3 For some reason, pkg attempted to build one of the upstream tex requirements without first installing whatever drops paths.h into /usr/local/kpathsea.
