Among the things that would be appropriate to accompany your post to freebsd-questions (if checking the archives and other information, such as FAQs, don't turn up the answer) would be answers to: * What version of FreeBSD are you running? * Was this a fresh install? If not, what version was it before, and how was the upgrade/migration accomplished? There were (and may still be) some issues with respect to "ELF" vs. "aout" (different ways of laying out the content of binary files), and the migration from the latter to the former (FreeBSD 2.x and prior -> FreeBSD 3.x and following).
