I've got a Seagate TR4 drive (SCSI) on my system at home.  I haven't had any
problems with it; it's a nice drive.  The price of the tapes is a limiting
factor, but if you don't need many (i.e., home use, for instance, or a
server where things don't change (much)), it would certainly be an
economical solution.
