E.g. PCMCIA, i4b etc are definitely not 'alpha'-capable. Rather, HARDWARE.TXT is listing all stuff for which drivers exist Wouldn't it be better to have a shared HARDWARE.TXT for both currently supported architectures (moved to release/texts) and a port-specific one in release/texts/[i386,alpha]? I'm currently writing a ALPHAHW.TXT that I think fits in this picture.
