This is strange, maybe. I created a boot and a root floppy under unix like so: jan:/dos/freebsd/floppies % dd if=boot.flp of=/dev/fd0 obs=18k jan:/dos/freebsd/floppies % dd if=root.flp of=/dev/fd0 obs=18k Boot using the boot floppy. If it asks, insert the root floppy. If you have assigned a /dos mount point for your dos partition and have untar'd the files in their /dos/freebsd sub directories it should find everything else.
