There is a known issue with Windoze with a known fix. Check out microsoft.com if so. If it's FBSD, how are you calling shutdown? Shutdown -r would bring back rather quickly. Shutdown -h would bring it back when your cat walks on the keyboard at 200 AM. And James is right to question your=20 Suspend/sleep settings in the BIOS...... Put information in your problem description if you want people to have any idea what the problem is.....
