Both have failed. I'm currently downloading 5.0-current to see if this is a 5.x thing or just a BETA thing. FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE is currently installed and working on this same machine. Everything but APM works fine (and that is why I want to try 5.x. I want APM) Problem Description ------------------- The 5.x-BETAx installation CD's kernel crashes at boot. I get the DB prompt. I'd love to capture this crash output with a serial console, but the fact is that it DOESN'T crash if I boot with either: boot -Dh or boot -D However, it DOES crash later on in the upgrade process when it's actually installing files. I had to run 'upgrade' with my 4.8-REL CDROM just to repair the damage. Any ideas? I'd be happy to offer more specific info to anyone who needs it. System specs ------------ PIII-M 1.2Ghz 128M+256M PC133 SDRAM PRISM 2.5 Wireless Mini-PCI card (working in 4.8) Firewire USB (assume version 1.x) ATI Mobility Radeon (not sure which version. 7500 maybe? Displays as 'ATI model 4c59 graphics accelerator' in 4.8 dmesg.boot) (works great in 4.8) Intel 82801CA/CAM based sound chip (works fine with pcm0 in 4.8. I had to enable 'options PCI_ENABLE_IO_MODES' in my kernel to keep the kernel from locking up on boot though) Intel Pro/100 Ethernet (working with fxp in 4.8) assorted other hardware. -- Jesse Guardiani, Systems Administrator WingNET Internet Services, P.O.
