I'm running FreeBSD 4.8 on a PC with ASUS P4B533-E motherboard, which includes the NEC PD72874GC FireWire controller. As I'm looking for a not-too-expensive backup solution for this machine, I was thinking of external HDD. Since FreeBSD 4.8 supports only USB 1.0, USB HDDs are too slow for backup, leaving FireWire. FreeBSD 4.9 hardware notes mention NEC uPD72861 chipset, but not PD72874GC. I was just wondering whether perhaps these two things are close enough that my integrated FireWire controller will still work. Has anyone tried to use the FireWire port on ASUS P4B533-E motherboard? -- Toomas Aas | toomas.aas@raad.tartu.ee | http://www.raad.tartu.ee/~toomas/ * Super Time-Saver now loading. Please wait........
