Are port maintainers aware of this? Pretty sleazy if you ask me. Charge the students tuition to develop it, then charge the public outrageous prices to use it. (Probably after getting big grants to develop it...) While clearly stating in the LICENSE that you cannot expect support and they take no responsibility for bugs. ------- Forwarded Message To: Randy Terbush <randy@zyzzyva.com> From: Office of Technology Transfer - U Arizona <ott@u.arizona.edu> Subject: Re: Glimpse 4.0 commercial license Randy: At 10:39 AM 12/17/96 -0600, you wrote: >Can you supply me with a license to use Glimpse on a commercial >web server? Glad you're interested, but I do need a little more information. First, let me tell you about the standard Glimpse licenses: We have several basic arrangements: 1) is a single-site WebServer license where Glimpse is used as the search engine for the site, which is accessed either publicly or privately, Internet or Intranet. This is available for $1000 ($500 for companies with less than 20 people). 2) is for ISP's who are developing personal home pages for their customers and want to supply Glimpse as part of the software package. For this application, we have a progressive rate starting at $2500 for 100 copies of Glimpse. 3) is for situations which involve virtual servers or web hosting, which typically involves a single copy of Glimpse being made available to a plurality of clients; clients or customers here mean a small business, less than 500 employees, using the standard federal definition for small entities. The rate here is similar to above, starting at $2500 for 100 "small business" clients. Other applications of Glimpse (e.g., multiple copies for commercial purposes or resale; Webhosting of large companies; etc.) require special licensing arrangements. When possible, we prefer that you mention Glimpse on the search page, with a hyperlink to the Glimpse homepage. I presume you're interested in License model 1. Are you a small or large company? If you're interested, give me a little more info on your needs, and I can send you (email/fax/mail) a copy of the appropriate license. Terry Dr. Terence Donohue (520) 626-4605 (voice) Sen.
