If you don't mind paying for software, I think you'll find SoftMaker's Textmaker and Planmaker tools wholly satisfatory. Their spreadsheets is fully compatible with Excel. They make their products for FreeBSD. Additionally, if you find quirks, they answer you (once I even saw one of their guys answer somebody on sci.math.numerical). *And* they provide regular service packs (bugfixes and improvements).
