FIXDRM patch also fixed it for me.

using drm only.

xorg-server 1.20.7,1
devd off
fixdrm on
suid on
udev on

without patch:
on laptop:
  startx
  konsole
  firefox <--- screen frozen

I'd ssh into laptop from desktop, kill xinit, got my vt back as if nothing =
ever
happened.

Also, a user not part of 'video' group could start firefox just fine
user in video group always froze up the screen.
