In case anyone is interested, I have also had a look at a few popular Linux
distributions, and found the following for /root permissions:

ArchLinux 2020.02.01 = 700
CentOS 8 = 550
Debian 10 = 700
Fedora 31 = 550
Slackware 14.2 = 710
Ubuntu 19.10 = 700
