According to section 20.2.5.1, it seems like you cannot do a tax
write-off just because you donated money to FreeBSD (since they aren't a
501(c)(3) chartiable organization).

Instead, you should think about donating money to FreeBSD to help
further the project and allow the group to allocate more resources to
improve the software and anything within the FreeBSD project as much as
possible.
