The source tree for -stable is available via sup.  -stable will be 2.1
very shortly.  Look at /usr/src/share/examples/sup/*stable*.

Yeah it does, more than I thought.  Basically you have to merge in
any changes you have made to your /etc files.  Most likely candidates
are passwd, group, rc, rc.local, sysconfig, sendmail.cf, and ttys.
Save the files you have modified or the entire /etc direcctory.
Update /etc by hand or look at the distribution target in
/usr/src/etc/Makefile.
