There are a few more minor changes you may = have to=20 make, but its a lot simpler & quicker way to get ppp working than just = relying on=20 other docs. For what its worth, I changed my gateway machine from = Mandrake 6 to FreeBSD because the docs were infinitely more intelligible, but I still = have problems=20 with some of the stuff and just have to bug the lists til I understand = what they are on about.=20 -----Original Message----- From: Skip <skip.morse@endor.com> To: freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG <freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG> Date: Monday, September 06, 1999 4:18 AM Subject: modems =20 =20 hi...i have a 56K v90 plug and play modem...i think it is picked up = on boot, but i am not sure...how can i tell if this is the case? also = how can i find out what port my modem is on?? i know in linux you could = just look at the ioports and interupts and that would give you a good = idea if it was there or not..but in freebsd i have no idea what i am = doing..any help you could give me was be great!! i am ancious to get = back on the net so i can check my mail and stuff like that...however i = am not real sure how to set up the ppp stuff yet...some of the stuff in = the handbook of Freebsd.org is kinda confusing when you don't know much = about Un*x enviroments...well thanx for your time and i hope to hear = from you soon!=20 thanx again,=20 John ------=_NextPart_000_02F0_01BEF834.4DC9A100 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD W3 HTML//EN"> <HTML> <HEAD> <META content=3Dtext/html;charset=3Diso-8859-1 = http-equiv=3DContent-Type><!doctype html public "-//w3c//dtd html 4.0 = transitional//en"> <META content=3D'"MSHTML 4.72.3110.7"' name=3DGENERATOR> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>Hi Skip</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>I had all sorts of problems with ppp = stuff a=20 couple weeks ago too and I'm writing a</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D2>real simple guide but will be a week = at least=20 before I can finish it.
