Hi Skip

I had all sorts of problems with ppp stuff a couple weeks ago too and =
I'm writing a
real simple guide but will be a week at least before I can finish it. =
There is a shell
script you can get from ftp://blackened.net that certainly made life =
easier for me,=20
you will need to edit the "set timeout" line in the ppp.conf file it =
makes to suit local=20
conditions and be certain to delete the part in this line after the "#" =
that goes on=20
about changing the default value of 300 to 0 if you don't want a timeout =
(the "#"=20
will confuse ppp no end). There are a few more minor changes you may =
have to=20
make, but its a lot simpler & quicker way to get ppp working than just =
relying on=20
other docs. For what its worth, I changed my gateway machine from =
Mandrake 6 to
FreeBSD because the docs were infinitely more intelligible, but I still =
have problems=20
with some of the stuff and just have to bug the lists til I understand =
what they are on about.=20

hi...i have a 56K v90 plug and play modem...i think it is picked up =
on boot, but i am not sure...how can i tell if this is the case? also =
how can i find out what port my modem is on?? i know in linux you could =
just look at the ioports and interupts and that would give you a good =
idea if it was there or not..but in freebsd i have no idea what i am =
doing..any help you could give me was be great!! i am ancious to get =
back on the net so i can check my mail and stuff like that...however i =
am not real sure how to set up the ppp stuff yet...some of the stuff in =
the handbook of Freebsd.org is kinda confusing when you don't know much =
about Un*x enviroments...well thanx for your time and i hope to hear =
from you soon!=20
    thanx again,=20
