Of course, I tried rescanning dirs, recreating hints, reboot, etc.
Unfortunately, without much success.

By cloning I mean dumping /, /var, /usr with restoring them thereafter (on
different harddrive).  Of course things like /etc/fstab, hostname, etc.
are tweaked to match the reality.
