Oh... and newer toshiba laptops feature a > windoze-only-and-required bios P.O.S. configurator I second that Toshiba models could use some more complete support for eg the ToPic bridge in the PCMCIA controller (mine panics soon after I remove a card, but not immediately) As for the config program, isn't it still available in the BIOS, but undocumented, like on mine? (Satellite Pro 42xx series) I think you have to press ESC while the Toshiba logo is showing on bootup. Also, on mine you can boot from the floppy by pressing and holding the "f" key while the logo is up and "c" for CDROM boot works too.
