A minimal install should take less than three hours.  Probably less than
two.

Maybe, you might find more UK people on the FreeBSD UKUG mailing list.

I can't do that myself, though I could probably roll a 4.1-RELEASE
locally since I have the entire CVS repository.  The CD from that
wouldn't have packages or XFree86 on, but it might be good enough for a
simple install.  Let me know.
