I don't have an alpha, but I have access to beast and I know some alpha assembly. I have time in the next few days to work on making the 2nd patch set at least compile there if that would be useful. Do the mutex routines really need to be machine dependent? The i386 assembly is all in the inline function atomic_cmpexg_int, which can be implemented in alpha assembly[1]. mtx_lock could be changed to something guaranteed large enough to hold curproc. Would that work?
