Yea, I tried that. I even added three of the devices to /etc/fbtab so it would change the permissions even more liberally when I log in as the average user. Still no luck. It appears that it's simply not possible to mount floppies or CDROMs as an average user under 2.2.8. I had read in the archives that it used to work for floppies, but I never found a successful case for the CD. Steve Friedrich Viva la FreeBSD!!
