I rather like to see something like the following in the port's Makefile:
USE_LDCONFIG=yes
and optional:
LDCONFIG_DIRS=/foo/lib /bar/lib (defaulting to ${PREFIX}/lib of course).
which would add all necessary magic to the PLIST.
