You've probably only done one thing wrong: failed to pat yourself on the
back for a successful installation :-)

It sounds like it's all full steam ahead and you're sitting there at the
prompt as root. Now you need to work through the tutorial for new users.

Go to http://www.freebsd.org/newbies.html and you'll see a link to this
tutorial, plus lots of other handy info. Take it slow, and enjoy.
