Dan, I didn't see your first email in this thread, but the same problem happened to me the first time I setup user ppp on FreeBSD. This was a while ago, and lqr (line quality) checks were being done by default. This caused my link to die not soon after I was connected. A simple ``deny lqr'' and ``disable lqr'' in my default heading did the trick. This of course is only for user ppp, so if you're having this problem with pppd, I don't know what to say.
