Can you go into a little detail about how this server was initially installed? (e.g. clean install from CD, updated via freebsd-update or similar). Can you please try to remove and recompile the open-vm-tools port and all the fuse* ports you have installed and see if that makes a difference? At the moment I'm not sure if this is caused by a bug in the kernel module shipped as part of open-vm-tools, or if it is related to a kernel change that occured between when the package was built, and when your kernel was built.
