BTW, I experience the opposite problem: the error only occurs when I "shutdown -p now" immediately after my login. If there is a minimum I/O activity on my system, the error is NOT displayed. On the other hand, I have set the "a0ff" flags for my IBM IDE disks, but NO softupdates -- so far. Ide 0 (FreeBSD slice): IBM DJNA 352030. With no softupdates, laziness is punished on my system ...
