Subject: Kernel panic in driver probe() routine

Hey folks,

Is it a bad thing to free up memory in the probe() routine for a pci
driver in the event of something going wrong?

It appears that whenever I do that the kernel panics saying
  page fault in kernel mode

I have seen other probe() routines for other drivers do that.

Thanks
Vinay
