If I'm not mistaken, it will be a place where people can ask newbie
questions and not be deluged with some of the rather technical stuff
that goes on on -questions.  Sort of a mixture of -questions and
-newbies.

Not the way it is, no, I don't think we need it.  I think we need a
list like the one proposed, where ignorant people like me can ask
questions that we would feel silly asking on -questions.

Just as a side note, I still am subscribed to -questions because some
useful things go on there - it's a vitally necessary list.  However, I
spend much of my time deleting messages that I can't understand, which
understandably doesn't do wonders for my ego.

As both sides of the argument have pointed out, it's not like -newbies
at all.  It's rather more like a -questions for beginners (as I
understand it).
