I have an EIDE and a SCSI drive. I installed FBSD on my SCSI drive with root on sd0. After experimenting with the boot prompt, the only way I could get FBSD to mount root was to type: 1:sd(0,a)/kernel at the boot prompt (if I remember correctly). I guess this tells fbsd that the scsi drive is bios ID 1? If your root partition is on sd1, then you'd type 1:sd(1,a)/kernel -- Gabriel
