Hi all, I've been installing FreeBSD over the 'net since 2.1.5 and I've _never_ had this much trouble. I'm trying to install 4.1-RELASE. I've got fresh kern.flp and mfsroot.flp files and all that seems fine. I can boot, I can get the install menus running fine. But, I can't seem to get the 3C509 card in the machine to work. It works fine with 3.1-RELEASE install floppies. Moreover, I can't seem to find the device in the kernel's visual config. I can see from HARDWARE.TXT that it's supported and that it's in the GENERIC kernel. It _is_ available in the list of network connection thingys in the install prog (along with the usual ppp and parallel port stuff). The problem comes just after I enter all the 'ifconfig' details (hostname, IP address, default gateway etc. etc.) These are all correct (and they all work with 3.1-RELASE floppies, all re-tested today). The PC hangs. Pressing ALT-F4 results in a continuous beep from the PC speaker, pressing 'Scroll Lock' results in the 'Scroll Lock' light coming on (but no scrolling back is possible), pressing any other keys (incl C-A-Del) does nothing. The major oddity is that the kernel reports (something like) this during boot:- ep0: found at 0x300 <---- i.e. this line looks OKay ep0: eeprom not responding ep0: eeprom not responding ep0: eeprom not responding ep0: eeprom not responding ep0: eeprom not responding ep0: MAC address 00:00:00:00:00:00 Now, I do have 3Com's diagnostics, so I've checked the card out, and it's fine. (and remember this all works fine with 3.1-RELEASE boot floppies). HELP! There's no boot ROM on the card (nor is there meant to be). All ideas gratefully received.
