For example, select text with the left mouse button down (mark as usual), or use double or triple click - and then use middle mouse button (or press down the mouse wheel) to paste? Paste will take place where yout mouse pointer is, or where your text cursor is located (especially in xterm). In worst case, test this with a standard 3 button mouse (or 2 button mouse with wheel) instead of the original Apple "no button" mouse.
