Many thanks to all who replied. Summary: Luoqi Chen sent me a patch to tunefs which should eliminate the need to hit the reset button, which helps because it's a remote system. I will report my results tomorrow (I try to avoid tricky remote administration at this hour ;-). Ben "You have your mind on computers, it seems."
