I started off moving to OpenBox because it has robust support for
dockapps, and was the closest to a Window Maker'y model that is in
active development. I still use it occasionally when I need something
super minimal.

Lately I've been enjoying xfce, since it gives just a little more than a
"bare bones" window manager without the (IMO oppressive) weight of gnome
or kde. I have been using xubuntu on my linux desktop for work as well.

Very kind of you to say so. :)

I actually used NeXT systems back in the 90's, and when I started using
FreeBSD in '95 Window Maker was my first wm, and until recently I kept
going back to it after brief forays into other pastures. In the last few
years OB and xfce have become stable and featureful enough to keep me
from being tempted to go back, although there are still some Window
Maker features that I miss, especially pinnable menus.
