I'm sure it can be.  It's very important to keep track of who said
what when things get nested 10 deep.

The source tree structure carries a few assumptions, one of which is
that you're performing a native compile.  Sure, it's a good idea to be
able to cross-compile, but on the current and likely future platforms
that FreeBSD might be ported to, it's not likely to become the rule.
