Go into your BIOS setup and set PnP OS to NO or OFF or OTHER.

Edit /dev/MAKEDEV and comment out the `if ..' and `fi' surrounding the
block of ln's that set up audio and such in the snd section, then
`/dev/MAKEDEV snd1'.
