The kernel on the boot floppy does not have the matcd driver present.
I have been told (but have not personally checked) that the fixit disk
also doesn't have matcd.

This should be fixed on at least the fixit disk so that files can be
recovered from the distribution CD-ROM if needed using the fixit disk.
