I am trying to configure Sendmail-8.12.5 for SMTP AUTH, STARTTLS, TLS, Cyrus-SASL. I'm attemtping to determine whether or not I can use cyrus-sasl2 as well. Yes, I realize that this is a bit of a kitchen sink approach to the sendmail, but I don't expect to use all of them. I just want to know how to implement them if need be. There is a document at http://www.sial.org/talks/smtpauth-starttls/talk.html#Compile%20support%20fo r%20Cyrus%20SASL that seems to have good information, however, it makes reference to site.config.m4. I have gone to /usr/share/sendmail/cf/cf in order to create a new sendmail.cf. Unfortunately, I cannot find a site.config.m4 to modify, or even where it would go if I were going to create on form scratch. I have seen the pages: http://www.sendmail.org/~ca/email/auth.html and http://www.sendmail.org/~ca/email/starttls.html. Neither of these have specific bearing on FreeBSD 4.6-Stable. I'm getting the impression that a re-compile of Sendmail is in order, but I don't know that I will end up knowing where the %$#@&^ site.config.m4 belongs. I have also looked at the port for Sendmail-8.12.6, but I'm unsure how to recompile after I have done a make, and edited the site.config.m4 file. Basically, I don't want to use the port unless I must. To sum it all up neatly: In a 4.6-Stable environment with native Sendmail, where do I find the site.config.m4 file? Do I need to do anything special in order to create it, and if so, how do I do those special things? I hope that I have been concise enough to get a straight answer, but if I need to clarify anything, I will be happy to comply.
