I've been waiting for the kernel threads to come out for some time :) You might want to consider compiling the linux version of MySQL with the linuxthreads library. I haven't played with linuxthreads yet, so I wouldn't suggest doing this with anything but a copy of your database or some test database, but you might want to try that out. Any speed lost in emulation (which I don't really think there is), would be more than made up for under load by the kernel threads.
