Here is what I see: 4.7-RELEASE (during attempt to install from CD) : ahd0 : warning chip reset failed.... detected as "7901A Ultra 320 adapter" (and sysinstall finds no disk drives.) 4.8-RELEASE installs, but on reboot I usually see: May 23 13:21:27 file1 /kernel: (ahd0:A:4:1): refuses synchronous negotiation. Using asynchronous transfers and it hangs. One time it booted up, I ran some tests, and eventually got a bunch of: May 24 01:52:33 file1 /kernel: Copied 18 bytes of sense data offset 12: 0x70 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x16 0xbf 0xa 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0 then it rebooted itself, and hung. 5.0-RELEASE After "waiting 15 seconds for SCSI devices to settle" it gives: (probe4:ahd0:0:4:0): Now packetized. (probe3:ahd0:0:3:0): Now packetized. (probe2:ahd0:0:2:0): Now packetized. (probe1:ahd0:0:1:0): Now packetized. (probe0:ahd0:0:0:0): Now packetized. (probe5:ahd0:0:6:7): SCB 0x9 - timed out >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dump Card State Begins <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< ahd0: Dumping Card State at program address 0x10 Mode 0x22 Card was paused SAVED_MODE[0x11] DFFSTAT[0x31]:(CURRFIFO_1|FIFO0FREE|FIFO1FREE) SCSISIGI[0x0]:(P_DATAOUT) SCSIPHASE[0x0] SCSIBUS[0x0] LASTPHASE[0x1]:(P_DATAOUT|P_BUSFREE) SCSISEQ0[0x0] SCSISEQ1[0x12]:(ENAUTOATNP|ENRSELI) SEQCTL0[0x10]:(FASTMODE) SEQINTCTL[0x0] SEQ_FLAGS[0xc0]:(NO_CDB_SENT|NOT_IDENTIFIED) SEQ_FLAGS2[0x0] CCSCBCTL[0x0] SSTAT0[0x0] SSTAT1[0x0] SSTAT2[0x0] SSTAT3[0x0] PERRDIAG[0x8]:(AIPERR) SIMODE1[0xa4]: (ENSCSIPERR|ENSCSIRST|ENSELTIMO) LQISTAT0[0x0] LQISTAT1[0x0] LQISTAT2[0x0] LQOSTAT0[0x0] LQOSTAT1[0x0] LQOSTAT2[0x1]:(LQOSTOP0) but it seems to boot up, I haven't tested much. 5.1-BETA2 (during attempt to install from CD)... Long delay after "waiting 15 seconds for SCSI devices to settle" and then a fair number of messages too many to write down including "integer device fault while in kernel" and then into a "db>" monitor. I see lots of recent work in: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/sys/dev/aic7xxx/ which I have not yet tried. Is anyone having luck with the onboard SCSI on this motherboard ? -- Bruce Campbell Engineering Computing CPH-2374B University of Waterloo (519)888-4567 ext 5889 ---------------------------------------- This mail sent through www.mywaterloo.ca
