I'm guessing it's a DNS lookup. You can check this by doing 'set log +tcp/ip' on the PPP server, then attaching the Samba share. PPP should log the packet that caused the dialout. You can then create a dial packet filter that blocks those types of packets from causing dialouts. Hope this helps.
