Essentially, the database walks through the DNS starting at freebsd.org and looks for hosts that start with ftp. It then FTPs to that host and takes a note of what releases and SNAPs are available on that machine. All info is then put into a database so you can search. The database can be accessed at http://www.itworks.com.au/~gavin/FBSDsites.php3 and is updated daily at 3am Melbourne time (10 hours ahead of GMT).
