Yes, of course.  I automatically run flyspell-mode in my mail
messages.  It flags acknowledgement and recommends acknowledgment.

Because I did:

Hmm.  It does that for me, too.  Seems that flyspell must be using a
different dictionary.

For some definition of ispell :-)

Hmm, I wouldn't rely on that too much, especially as the word doesn't
map well into German.  My German-English dictionary spells it with an
e too, but it can't find a translation for it which translates back
again.
