How fast does the Parallel port IP transfer data? How much CPU does it use
when idle? (The manual pages are vague, reporting the driver is a pig when
handshaking and waiting for data.) Large amounts of data will be moved,
including dumping a 9G disk a couple of times a week.

Target machines are a pair of Dell GX1 PII 350's, both running FreeBSD 4.4.

I specifically only need these two machines on this point-to-point link,
I've got this extra parallel cable, I've got these free parallel ports ...
but no need to be pennywise and pound foolish. I can throw a pair of 10/100
cards in the two machines with a cross over cable if it will be that much
faster.
