In my FreeBSD box I'm using a Netgear MA401 in a MA301 PCI cradle. The client machine is a WinXP box running a MA401. This evenings crash occured while traffic was very light, I just had a ssh and a IMAP session up. The FreeBSD box has the wi0 interface setup as follows wi0: flags=8843 mtu 1500 inet 192.168.2.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255 ether 00:30:ab:1a:06:c6 media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet DS/11Mbps status: associated ssid GavinsHomeNetwork 1:GavinsHomeNetwork stationname "FreeBSD WaveLAN/IEEE node" channel 3 authmode OPEN powersavemode OFF powersavesleep 100 wepmode MIXED weptxkey 3 wepkey 1:128-bit wepkey 2:128-bit wepkey 3:128-bit wepkey 4:128-bit When this interface goes belly up all networking to the box dies and a reboot is required. While tring to reboot, which took about 10 minutes from issuing the reboot command until the machine actually rebooted, a vast number of wi0 errors were written to the console. These messages included Aug 6 23:01:29 chip /kernel: wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc28/0; last status 800b Aug 6 23:01:29 chip /kernel: wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc23/0; last status 800b Aug 6 23:01:29 chip /kernel: wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc24/0; last status 800b Aug 6 23:01:29 chip /kernel: wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc2a/0; last status 800b Aug 6 23:01:29 chip /kernel: wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc80/0; last status 800b Aug 6 23:01:29 chip /kernel: wi0: wi_cmd: busy bit won't clear.
