The line: Jan 22 16:20:40 hostname nfsd[10726]: rpcb_set udp failed seems to indicate that vfs.nfsd.server_min_nfsvers is set to 2 or 3 and not 4. However, /etc/rc.d/mountd should have set it to 4 and that should have happened before /etc/rc.d/nfsd was run.
