To the best of my knowledge the disks are hard sectored. I've seen media
with 512 and 1024 bytes/sector. Maybe you can borrow a 512 byte/sec disk?

My DEC RWZ01 (600~ Mb) works just fine with FreeBSD. It is set to
emulate a type 0 (? ; at least direct access device) so that I can handle
it with the sd driver just like a normal magnetic disk. The RWZ01 is
a Sony-something MO with different firmware.
