All you need to do is set up /etc/mail/mailer.conf properly -- and installing the postfix port should do that for you -- and then any reference to /usr/sbin/sendmail, /usr/bin/mailq, usr/bin/hoststat etc. will run postfix instead. You can prevent sendmail from being built as part of the base system by defining 'WITHOUT_SENDMAIL=3Dyes' in /etc/src.conf, bu= t this supposes that you want to build the system yourself, rather than using, say, freebsd-update(8).
