ifconfig -a This is will list the network interfaces on the machine. This doesn't just apply to NICs however. You'll see things like your loopback device as well, but you'll also see the configured NICs. If you want to see the output of the probes that happened during boot then type in... dmesg ...and look through that for any NICs that were recognized. You may wish to pipe the output to something (like your favorite pager utility).
